I spent last week in Boston at the GBTA conference, where over 7,000 attendees networked while learning about the latest travel trends. It was an amazing conference, with lots going on and an incredible array of speakers- from former Presidents Clinton and Bush (the 2nd Bush), the hilarious Seth Myers, and the CEOs of some of the largest travel companies out there- Orbitz, Jet Blue, Amadeus, British Airways, and more.
The days were filled with informative sessions on all range of business travel issues, and the nights were spent at parties hosted at some the best venues in Boston. With over 7,000 attendees and an enormous showcase floor, it was hard not to get lost or overwhelmed.
I showed up to represent TripLingo at the GBTA’s “Business Traveler Innovation Awards”. Sponsored by Fast Company, the awards are meant to showcase the best new innovations in business travel.
We were up against some serious competition- Gogo Inflight Wireless, Hertz, Sabre, Kayak, Carlson Wagonlit, Yapta, and Short’s Travel Management to name a few. In all, over 30 companies were eligible for awards, and ten finalists presented to a panel of judges to compete for the coveted “Business Travel Innovation of the Year” Award.
A little over an hour after the presentation, I got an exciting call- we were selected as the winner!
The next day during lunch, we were officially presented the award on stage in front of all 7k attendees- it was truly an exciting moment, and I was both honored and proud of our team for the incredible recognition.
We’ve been honored in the past year to win a number of awards, and we’re grateful for each. Awards don’t make a business, but they’re nice validation and we’re honored and flattered to have received them.
With that said, here’s to creating awesome products and making travel easier, less frustrating, and more convenient!
